What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us, as acknowledged in baptism, and to make an informed, considered, prayerful decision to live as a follow of Jesus Christ. The salvation God offers us must be accepted in repentance and faith. The confirmation process allows for students to engage the gospel personally within the relationships of the First Church congregation.
Too often confirmation has been downgraded to the role of a checkpoint along the faith journey. The First Church family reclaims confirmation as the first step on a journey that leads to a mature faith. The confirmation material for this year (Confirm) treats confirmation as more than a decision. Instead, it is the beginning of a conversation about what it means to be a Christian, living out your faith, your commitment, and God’s call.
Confirm material is easy-to-follow and easy-to-understand and provides students with the basic beliefs of a theologically sound, United Methodist faith while engaging them in creative and thought-provoking activities to help them internalize what they’ve learned.
First Church also embraces the importance of community in the journey of faith development in all the students and provides the right materials to encourage cooperation with parents and mentors in the confirmation process and beyond.
