BOARD OF TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT

The Board of Trustees is charged with the responsibility for management of the real property owned by the church as well as gifts donated to the church. The church owns the church building and the parsonage on Dole Avenue. Deeds, insurance, maintenance contracts and improvements are the sole responsibility of the Trustees. There are nine members who currently serve on the Board of Trustees. The Senior Pastor is the Staff Representative. Many others volunteer their time and talents to assist with various projects throughout the year. We are deeply appreciative and grateful for all God has called to serve in this area of ministry in our church.

PROJECTS COMPLETED IN 2007:

  • STAINED GLASS WINDOWS - The repair, restoration, and re-framing of our beautiful stained glass windows in the Hale Chapel Narthex area has now been accomplished. Technicians from Daprato Rigali Studios completely repaired broken pieces, and added reinforcement and new zinc borders. Vented frames replaced the exterior glass.
  • REVIEW OF CORPORATE DOCUMENTS - as mandated by the District. All corporate documents, deed and title insurance policies have been reviewed and found to be in compliance.
  • LIGHTING - Dimmer control modules were repaired and replaced in the Sanctuary. Electrical outlets were added for Room 232 for the Scrappy Quilters.
  • A DEFIBRILLATOR - has been purchased on the recommendation of the Leadership Council. Training sessions are in progress. It will be placed in the lower Narthex by the ushers' room.
SECURITY:
  • NURSERY - Glass windows have been added to the doors in the Nursery.
  • OFFICE AREA - A policy was established to leave lights on in the office areas at night for security reasons.
  • PRE-SCHOOL - Hallway signs have been added during pre-school hours to eliminate traffic through the area. Parking signs have been added for drop-off areas and stripes painted for the children crossing area to the playground. Notices on locked classroom doors permit entry only with the director. Pre-school teachers are to identify themselves before confronting others in designated pre-school areas.

GIFTS DONATED IN 2007:

  • A PIANO for the Community Room was given by the William Davies family in memory of Lisa Bradford Davies.
  • USHER ROOM CABINETRY was donated by Bob Cholka as well as the new cabinets for the Pre-School office and one of the classrooms. Funds for landscaping and maintenance for the Chapel In The Woods were donated by Jerry & Annette Lindley. Funds were donated by Mary Essex for the landscaping and maintenance of the Atrium.

CONTRACTED SERVICES:  Cruz Janitorial Services assumed the duty of lock-up on the weekends. Cruz employee, Homero, is our daytime maintenance/custodian. He helps with all projects including painting, gardening, cleaning, and installing new tile floors. William Ruth Landscaping is responsible for the mowing and maintenance of all the grounds including the Chapel In The Woods and the Atrium.

ONGOING PROJECTS - 2007 & 2008

  • SIGN -A new outdoor sign has been architecturally designed by Jason Lembke, and we are in the process of getting bids for construction. A backlit cross and flame has been installed on the front of the church on the pre-existing cross.
  • BANNERS - The City of Crystal Lake has an ordinance regarding banners; they can only be displayed 30 days per calendar year. Permits have to be renewed annually to display specific banners on designated days.
  • WATER USAGE - Monitoring highly fluctuating monthly water bills is ongoing and all toilet floats will be replaced.
  • ROOF - Sanctuary windows have been caulked to prevent leakage during rainstorms. The roof, soffits, and fascia on the new part of the building will be evaluated.
  • PARKING LOT - The parking lot will be sealed and painted in the spring.

PARSONAGE: - The annual parsonage walk-through was completed with Dominic Zinanni, Chairperson of Staff-Parish. Some minor repairs need to be made including repair of the lower bathroom wall, electrical outlets in the kitchen, carpet cleaning, adjustment of fans in the bedrooms, and repair of curtain brackets in the living room.

  • ROOF - Tamko Weathered Wood-style shingles were used for the new roof which was replaced in September.
  • GARDENS - Flower beds and landscaping around the house are being evaluated and replaced.
  • DRIVEWAY - was seal-coated and filled after the roof was completed.
  • GARAGE DOOR OPENER - was replaced earlier in the year.
  • TREES - have been trimmed around electrical wires in the front and damage from storms was cleaned up in the back

COLUMBARIUM - Nameplates have been purchased and installed on all niches. Scrolls will be added as needed. The Columbarium Committee has increased the price of a niche to $2500 due to increased costs by Eickhof Columbaria.

The Trustee Ministry is on-going. There are always building improvements that need to be made to further the ministry of FUMC in Crystal Lake. We welcome and are thankful for all the suggestions, ideas, and help from all who worship in our beautiful church. We are blessed to be called to serve our Lord in caring for our building and grounds.

In Christ for the Glory of God,
Paula Ripple, Chairperson
